All you really need is some baking soda toothpaste (not gel) and a lint-free cloth. Wet the DVD down and apply a small amount of toothpaste. Using your cloth, gently rub the area around the scratch. It is important that you rub the DVD in Straight Lines (from the inside to the outside) and NOT in circular motions. Rub 10-15 times before moving onto the next scratch.
Once you’re done just rinse off the disc with warm water and let it air dry. Do not wipe it down or try to use it before it is completely dry. Now you know how to repair a scratched DVD.
Note: Polishing scratches will work in the short-term unless the scratch is already down to the foil layer. Do Not do this repeatedly because you are slowly wearing down the plastic buffer. For repeated scratches or deep gouges you should consider resurfacing the DVD entirely.

The fact is that you don't just want a temporary fix, you want to restore your DVD to its original condition. I've lost a few DVD's through hand polishing but never with an automated system.
I use the Skip Doctor.
SkipDR makes repairing damaged DVDs easier than ever. When your CD, DVD, or game skips, it's disruptive. The problem is, once a disc surface is scratched, it will prevent the disc player's laser from reading the signal, which causes that irritating skipping. But the SkipDR has been saving discs for a decade now. The FlexiWheel microfrictional surface technology allows for gentle resurfacing of your disc and will restore it to its original playing quality.

Now this may sound crazy but engineers have used...Brasso! for years to resurface and polish poly-carbonate. Tried it myself and it works but just like the toothpaste you need to remeber you are polishing a DVD not granny's bust...err I mean a brass bust of granny...well you know what I mean.

Dude, I have done that toothpaste on a DVD and it actually works. I was totally surprised. I haven't heard of the skip doctor but will try that the next time on my DVDs. Thank you. Good hub.
